Dr. Joan B. Rose is the Homer Nowlin Chair in Water Research at Michigan State University.
Her area of specialization is water microbiology, water quality and public health safety. She promotes new tools for environmental surveillance of waterborne pathogens, evaluation of public health risk via Quantitative Microbial Risk Assessment and implementation of controls for interrupting infectious disease exposure pathways. She runs the Water Quality and Environmental Microbiology Laboratory, which specializes in surveillance of waterborne pathogens in drinking water, surface, recreational waters and wastewater.
Dr. Rose holds several degrees in microbiology. Her BS is from the University of Arizona, her MS is from the University of Wyoming and her PhD is from the University of Arizona.
