Dr. John M. Pawelek is Senior Research Scientist in the Department of Dermatology and the Yale Comprehensive Cancer Center, Yale School of Medicine.
Dr. Pawelek’s research interests lie both on factors regulating skin color as well as on metastasis of the skin cancer melanoma. He recently developed methods for lightening dark spots on the skin. Dr. Pawelek has worked on melanocortin-1 receptors, melanocortin action and UV light, and the enzymology of melanogenesis, including discovery of the melanogenesis enzyme dopachrome tautomerase.
His PhD is in Developmental Biology from Brown University. Dr. Pawelek was a Yale University Post-doctoral Fellow.
