In 2014, Cassandra and her sister, Sydney, founded Nana’s Run, a 5k race in Grand Rapids, Michigan to support ALS patients and help raise awareness about the disease. Nana’s Run was created to honor the life and legacy of Cassandra and Sydney’s grandmother, Char “Nana” VanderLaan, who battled ALS. In total, the race raised more than $2.25 million over an 8-year period, and proceeds supported patients, caregivers and ongoing ALS research in West Michigan.
Cassandra also supports charities and initiatives that focus on mental health awareness and the health and well-being of women and children.
