As chief administrative officer, Michael Nelson leads information technology, human resources, legal, global strategic planning, information security, and shareholder engagement divisions.
He has been with Amway since 1992 in a variety of leadership roles related to company strategy, vision and growth, working extensively with Amway markets around the world. He is a member of Amway’s executive staff, the company’s top advisory team to the Office of the Chief Executive, composed of Amway Chairman Steve Van Andel and President Doug DeVos.
Nelson previously served as Chief Information Officer (CIO), where he was responsible for design and delivery of innovative technology solutions that drive growth, efficiency and agility across Amway’s global business.
Prior to his role as CIO, Nelson served as vice president of Amway global strategic planning, where he was responsible for creating, integrating and communicating the enterprise long-range strategic plan. He also managed the company’s Growth Through Innovation transformation program, overseeing global cross-functional teams designed to build strategic capabilities and drive aggressive growth initiatives.
Prior to leading strategy, Nelson was director of project management and director of strategic procurement. During his tenure, the company earned global awards for operations excellence and supply chain excellence from the Supply Chain Council.
Nelson earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in business and supply chain management from Michigan State University. He received a Master of Management degree from Aquinas College. Nelson is a current member of the governance committee of the Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce, board of directors for D.A. Blodgett – St. John’s and the long-range planning committee of the Ada Christian School Board and various national/international forums and networks.
Previously, Nelson served on the Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce board of directors.
