Amway Global Makeup Artist Rick DiCecca says the world’s simplest beauty secret is confidence.
Confidence rises as we age. A study* published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology said self-esteem improves through midlife and peaks around age 60.
Even as we grow more confident and mature on the inside, most of us want to look younger on the outside. Rare is the person who welcomes the skin scourges that occur with aging.
“For women, the natural foundation for a beautiful face, before any makeup is applied, is a flawless complexion, which can be achieved with a skincare regimen and products designed to improve the appearance of aging skin,” DiCecca said.
But it’s not just women, and it’s not just those who are in midlife: The quest to look one’s youngest best is occurring across all demographics. Anti-aging skincare has become the largest segment in the facial skincare category, claiming 40 percent of the market, according to Mintel, a London-based global research firm.
As we age, a trio of skin issues arises: rougher texture, duller tone and reduced elasticity. Left untreated, these issues can contribute to larger skin problems, including wrinkling, age spots and sagging.

Evening the skin’s surface
Time takes its toll on the texture of skin. It can become dull and rough while pores appear larger.
Think of good skin like good fabric. The true luxury of such fabrics as cashmere, silk, satin and velvet is in their ability to feel as good as they look. It’s a question of texture and touch.
The number of consumers using skincare products to improve texture increased to 36 percent in 2013 from 21 percent in 2012, according to Mintel.
“Improving skin texture is resonating across all age groups and speaks to women and men alike, as the idea of a flawless complexion is broadly appealing,” said Shannon Romanowski, a beauty and personal care analyst at Mintel.

Leverett helped to identify new technologies for Advanced Skin Refinisher.
Advanced Skin Refinisher contains optical diffusers that mattify and smooth the skin’s surface for an instant soft-focus appearance. The product also includes lentil seed extract – an anti-oxidant-rich extract that helps reduce the appearance of pores and reinforce skin’s natural support. The extract was clinically tested to reduce the appearance of pores by up to 62 percent in four weeks.
“The key to the Advanced Skin Refinisher lies in the balance of its multi-functional ingredients,” Leverett said.
Java tea extract helps to manage sebum production. Star fruit leaf extract visibly tightens the outside area of the pore and shrink the appearance of pores. Patented oat extract and Natural-Moisturizing-Factor sugars gently exfoliate the skin’s surface area to help unclog pores and smooth away roughness.
